1997 Honda Civic
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How do I know you are not a scam locksmith?

Three things to ask any locksmith before they show up: license number, company name, and a firm price for your specific job. Scam operations quote a low number on the phone and then inflate it once they're in your driveway and you're stuck. We give you a real price on the call based on your actual vehicle, show up in a marked van, and that number does not move.

Q: Will the replacement key and remote work exactly like the originals?

Yes. On the 1997 Civic, the remote and the ignition key are two separate things, and we handle both. The key gets cut to your vehicle so it turns the ignition and the door locks mechanically. The remote gets programmed so all four buttons are active. We test the ignition, then walk every button on the fob before we leave. You are not signing off on anything until everything works the way it should.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my 1997 Civic. Can you program it, or do I need to get one from you?

Bring it and we will check it. The 1997 Civic uses a specific fob, and the factory FCC ID matters. Aftermarket fobs sold online vary in quality and some are not compatible with the vehicle's receiver even if they look identical. If the one you bought matches the correct factory FCC ID for this year and model, there is a good chance we can program it.

Q: My 1997 Civic remote only works from a few feet away now. Is the fob dying?

Usually it is just the battery getting low before it reads as fully dead. Swap in a fresh CR2025, specifically that size, and retest from a normal distance. If range comes back, you are done. If it is still weak after a known-good battery, the fob may need to be reprogrammed to the vehicle's receiver, which can drift over time or reset after a battery disconnect. That is a quick job on site.

1997 Honda Civic Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in Windsor North, near the River Ridge side of Oxnard, a guy called me about his 1997 Civic. His remote had stopped responding entirely. He'd already tried a new battery, bought it at a gas station, and nothing changed.

When I got there, he handed me the fob and I could see right away the battery he'd swapped in was the wrong size. It was seated loosely, making intermittent contact. The fob looked fine otherwise, no water damage, no cracked housing.

I put in the correct CR2025, cleaned the contacts, and tested range from across the lot. Lock worked. Unlock worked. All four buttons confirmed before I walked back to my van.

He mentioned he'd almost called the dealer. He was glad he didn't, both for the time and what he saved.

Some calls are just that. Right battery, right size, job done in a parking lot before anyone has to tow anything anywhere.
