Over in the Dos Vientos neighborhood in Thousand Oaks, a guy called me from a pharmacy parking lot. His 2000 Civic wouldn't start, and he needed to get home for his insulin. He was diabetic and the grocery run he had planned just turned into a problem with a clock on it.

The green key light on the dash was blinking steady, which on sixth-gen Civics means the immobilizer module is rejecting the chip signal.
I opened the car, plugged my Autel IM608 into the OBD-II port under the dash, and re-registered his transponder to the immobilizer. Swapped the dead CR2025 in the remote fob, tested all four buttons, cycled the ignition twice to confirm the green key light was behaving. Then I walked him through the mechanical key backup, just in case a dead battery ever locked him out again.
From his phone call to engine running, about 40 minutes. He drove straight to the pharmacy counter, picked up his prescription, and headed home. Sometimes the gap between a locksmith and a dealer is not about money. It is about getting the car running before a medical situation gets worse.
