2014 Honda Civic Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in River Park, near the Wagon Wheel end of Ventura, I got a call from a guy who stocked shelves at a warehouse store. He'd had a key made by someone else for his 2014 Civic a week and a half earlier and it was already falling apart on him.
Not all at once. That's what made it strange to him. It would start the car fine in the morning. By the end of his shift, the push-button start would flash a key-not-detected warning and he'd be standing in the parking lot holding the fob against the start button just to get home. He thought the car had developed an electrical problem.
It hadn't.
When I got there, the first thing I did was test the fob battery. CR2032 was low but not dead, which told me part of the story but not all of it. I pulled up the key data through my diagnostic equipment and confirmed what I suspected: the transponder inside the fob wasn't the right one for this vehicle. Whoever cut the key had used a chip that was close enough to pass the initial pairing but not correct for how Honda's immobilizer verifies things over multiple drive cycles. It worked Monday. It started arguing with the car by Tuesday. By the end of the week it was losing that argument regularly.
I programmed a new key with the correct transponder matched to this Civic, put a fresh CR2032 in the new fob, and erased the bad key from the vehicle's memory so it couldn't cause any more interference. Then I walked every function: lock, unlock, the start button, the backup key inside the fob. Everything confirmed.
He asked me if the original locksmith had done it on purpose. I told him probably not. Using the wrong chip is an easy mistake if you're not paying close attention to this specific vehicle. The result is the same either way.
Cost him a fraction of what the dealer wanted. More importantly, it actually held.

“Locked out on a weekend night and everyone else wanted $300+. EZ Car Keyz sent Roman late at night for much less. He worked for over an hour and did not give up until the door opened. They even made a new key on the spot.”
“I had two Subaru key fobs made and Marco provided excellent service. He stayed persistent through multiple part orders to make sure everything was correct. Very thorough, punctual, and great communication throughout.”
“Tim went above and beyond. I struggled all day trying to program a new FOB and nothing worked. Tim helped me patiently, even recommending cheaper options since I was on a tight budget. He eventually came all the way to Ojai late at night and fixed everything.”
