2007 Honda Civic Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Over in the Erbes Road neighborhood in Thousand Oaks, a guy who works nights at the warehouse off the boulevard flagged me down about his 2007 Civic. Another locksmith had cut him a key about eight days earlier. It started the car fine at first, then began failing intermittently. Some mornings it would crank right up. By evening, nothing. Engine would turn over but the immobilizer light on the dash would blink and kill fuel injection.
He thought it was an electrical gremlin. It wasn't.
I pulled his bad key apart on the hood and ran the transponder through my VVDI2. The chip inside was a generic ID46 clone, but it wasn't written correctly for Honda's immobilizer protocol. Close enough to pass initial registration, not close enough to survive the rolling verification the ECU runs across multiple drive cycles. Honda's system is pickier than most about that handshake.
Programmed a new remote head key with a properly initialized PCF7936 chip, cut the HON66 blade to his door lock since I had no working original to copy from, and matched it to the N5F-S0084A profile. His CR1616 was also reading low, so I swapped that while I had the fob open.
That was a few months back. Still running fine. The difference between a key that works and a key that works for a week is the chip initialization inside it.
