A tattoo artist over by Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura flagged me down in his shop's lot. He had a 2012 Honda Civic and one question: would the key be as good as what the dealer sells. Not a backup key. His daily driver key.

OEM Honda remote head keys come with the logo stamped on the housing, the factory part number 35111-SVA-306 on the box, and a fat brand markup stapled to the receipt. The aftermarket blanks I carry use the same HON66 side-milled blade profile, same ID46 Hitag2 transponder, same four-button layout on the N5F-S0084A circuit board. In daily use the functional difference is zero if the blank is good quality.
I cut the blade on my Triton machine right there on his lot, programmed the transponder through the OBD-II port, and synced all four remote buttons. Lock, unlock, trunk, panic. Then I tested the immobilizer cycle: key in, green key light on dash goes solid, engine fires. Pulled it out, tried his old key, tried the new one again. Both registered and both starting clean.
He turned the key over in his hand looking for the catch. No Honda logo on the back. That was the only difference. He pocketed it and went back inside.
Whole thing took maybe 25 minutes. A dealer would have quoted him a week's wait for the part and a shop visit on top of it, for a good chunk more than what I charged him in that parking lot.
