In Ventura, over in Olivas Adobe, a couple was standing next to their 2016 Civic EX with a cracked key fob in two pieces. One half in a hand, the blade fragment stuck in the driver's door lock. Zero working keys.

I pulled the broken blade fragment out of the lock cylinder first. Then I opened up the cracked remote head and checked the HITAG 3 transponder chip inside. Still intact, still readable. I used my programmer to clone the 47 chip data off the broken board rather than running a full all-keys-lost reset through the OBD port, which would have added time and cost because Honda's immobilizer relearn on these tenth-gen Civics has a timed security countdown built into the process.
Decoded the lock wafers, cut two fresh blades, and rebuilt the KR5V2X into a new shell with the cloned chip seated properly. Paired the remote functions and walked every button: lock, unlock, trunk, remote start, panic. Tested passive entry on both front doors and the start button.
They went from stuck on the street to holding two working keys in about 40 minutes. The guy kept flipping the new key over in his hand like he was checking if it was real. I told him the second key just saved him from a much bigger bill next time.
