A college senior near Hollywood by the Sea called the dealer first. They told him to tow it in and quoted him a price that made him stop and re-read the text twice. I handed him the cracked original so he could see exactly what had failed, the housing had split just enough to let the chip shift position, which is all it takes to kill the read.
He saved a good chunk over the dealer route and never moved the car an inch.
