2025 Honda Prologue
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How long does the programming take once you are at my car?

For a standard add-a-key on the Prologue, plan on 30 to 45 minutes on-site from the time I park next to you. The programming itself through the OBD port is not the slow part. Cutting, building, and testing the full fob is what fills the time. All-keys-lost runs longer, typically 45 to 90 minutes, because the immobilizer reset has a timed sequence that cannot be rushed. Either way, you get a tested, working key before I pack up.

Q: Can you get here faster than the dealer can see me?

Almost always. And that comparison is not even close when the dealer needs to order the fob. The 2025 Prologue uses a specific five-button fob, and a dealer that does not have one in stock will tell you to come back in a few days. I carry stock. I come to you in Ventura and the surrounding area including Casitas Springs.

Q: I only have one key for my Prologue. Should I get a spare made now, or wait until I need it?

Get it now. All-keys-lost on a push-button start vehicle is a different job than adding a second key while you still have a working one. When you have an existing fob, the process is faster and simpler. When you have zero working keys, the immobilizer has to be fully reset before anything new can be registered, and that adds time and complexity. A lot of Prologue owners find this out the wrong way.

Q: My Prologue fob range dropped and the door handles are slow to respond. Is the fob failing?

Start with the CR2450 battery. Reduced range and sluggish handle response are classic signs of a battery that is not fully dead yet but running low. The fob keeps functioning at reduced power before it quits entirely, and that in-between state is where most of the weird behavior happens. Swap the battery first, seat it correctly, and retest before assuming the fob itself has a problem.

2025 Honda Prologue Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in Casitas Springs, I got a call on a Sunday afternoon from a guy who had just gotten back to his car after a long hike.

His 2025 Honda Prologue was sitting right where he parked it, but the fob was dead and he had no idea the CR2450 inside could go quietly with no warning. No low-battery alert, just silence and a key-not-detected warning staring back at him from the dash.

He had done the smart thing and googled it. He knew the physical blade was inside the fob. He got the door open. But the car would not start, and he did not know about the backup startup method using the fob against the button.

I walked him through it on the phone. He held the fob to the start button, pressed, and the Prologue turned on. He drove to meet me instead of me driving to him.

When I got there, I swapped in a fresh CR2450, reseated the battery contact, and we tested every function on the fob: lock, unlock, and all remaining buttons, plus the handle sensors walking each door. Everything came back clean.

He mentioned he had called the dealer first. They told him to tow it in. That was a non-starter after a Sunday hike. Tow from out there, wait for Monday, pay dealer rates. We wrapped the whole thing in a parking lot, and he was back on the road in under 20 minutes.

Honda Prologue Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What if I need a key after hours or on a weekend?▼

Call me. Dealer service departments are typically closed Sunday evenings, holidays, and most nights after 6. The 2025 Prologue is not a car you can limp along without a working fob. Push-button start means the fob is part of the equation every single time you drive. I run calls in Ventura and out to Casitas Springs evenings and weekends, so you are not stuck waiting until Monday and paying a tow fee on top of the key job.
