Got a call from a guy staying near the Tierra Rejada Open Space in Moorpark. Work trip, one smart key, and the fob had gone completely dead on him. Push-to-start just sat there. Cleaned the contacts inside the SY5HMFNA04 housing, dropped in a fresh CR2032, and tested proximity unlock on all doors plus the trunk button. Everything responded.
Then I paired a second fob through the OBD port using the SMART module so he would have a backup. Cut the emergency insert blade in the van, matched to the HY18R profile. The whole thing took about 35 minutes.
He just sat on the curb watching, shaking his head that nobody at the dealer mentioned the backup start trick or that the battery might be the whole problem.
