Moorpark College Area, mid-evening. A guy doing a work stay called me from the parking lot of his hotel. His 2012 Genesis Coupe had gone dark on him. Push-button start, nothing. He'd already tried holding the fob closer to the button, which is the right instinct, and still nothing. He'd already looked up what a dealer replacement fob would run him and was not happy about the number. Didn't need any of that. Just needed someone to show up and actually diagnose the thing instead of defaulting to "replace it."
