2021 Jaguar E-Pace Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Spring Road area job had me scratching my head. The E-Pace owner's KOBJXF18A fob worked fine until it didn't. Push-to-start gave him "Smart Key Not Recognized" every third attempt.
He'd already been to the dealer. They wanted to replace the KVM module and reprogram both keys. Their quote made him Google mobile locksmiths instead.
I connected my Autel IM608 through the OBD port. DTC B1A86-87 popped up: PEPS antenna circuit malfunction. The fob was broadcasting fine, but the car couldn't hear it consistently. I checked the antenna connection under the center console. The connector had backed out maybe 2mm. Just enough to cause intermittent dropouts.
Reseated the connector, cleared codes, then tested twenty starts in a row. Solid every time. The whole fix took fifteen minutes.
He kept asking if that was really it. People expect complex solutions when dealers quote four figures. Sometimes it's just a loose plug. His keys were never the problem. The E-Pace just couldn't hear them properly.
Saved him a chunk compared to replacing parts that worked fine.
