Got a call from a guy near the Rice Avenue corridor in Oxnard. He had a 2004 Jaguar X-Type sitting in a restaurant parking lot, one key to his name, and the flip blade was starting to wobble loose in the housing. He wanted a spare made before the original died on him completely.
He had already called the Jaguar dealer. They told him they'd need the car towed in, the blank ordered by VIN, and an appointment window that put him two to three days out. He works nearby, drives every day. That timeline didn't work.
I pulled up with my programmer and a NHVWB1U241 blank. Cut the blade first using his original as a reference, then connected to the OBD-II port to register the new 4D 60 transponder through the body processor. The X-Type handshake is older-school compared to newer JLR stuff, no KVM here, just the instrument cluster handling immobilizer duties. Registration took a few minutes. Remote pairing for the four buttons came after.
He stood there flipping the new key open and closed, testing the weight of it. Then he locked and unlocked the doors three times like he was making sure it wasn't a trick.
Whole thing took about 35 minutes. He drove off with two working keys and didn't lose a single day of his week to a dealer waiting room.
