I was parked off Victoria Avenue in Oxnard, finishing up another job, when a call came in from someone near Channel Islands Harbor. She had a 2005 Jaguar X-Type and a flip key that was barely holding itself together. The hinge had failed, the blade flopped loose, and she had the whole thing bound up with a rubber band so the blade wouldn't swing open in her pocket.

I transferred the board into a new housing, seated a new battery with clean contacts, and cut a fresh blade to match the vehicle. Tested every button, tested the blade engagement, made sure the hinge locked solid in both positions.
She had been ready to pay for a complete key replacement. She didn't need one. The dealer quoting full replacement on a shell problem is one of those things that happens a lot with older Jaguars, because the shops would rather sell a whole unit than spend time on a shell swap. The job took about 40 minutes on site, right there at the Harbor, and she left with a key that felt brand new.
