Got a call from a Defender owner near the Ojai Trolley route on a Sunday morning. He had one working key left. The other one went through the wash in a pair of cargo shorts. Classic.
He pulled it out of the dryer, hit the unlock button, nothing. Opened it up, saw corrosion already forming around the CR2032 contacts and along the board traces. Water got past the seam where the emergency blade slides in. That fob was done.

I set up on his driveway, connected to the OBD port, and accessed the KVM. The 2020 Defender uses Jaguar Land Rover's SPC560 security protocol through the KVM, so key registration has to go through the module directly. Programmed the new KOBJXF18A, cut the emergency blade to match his HU101 lock profile, and ran the full cycle. Proximity unlock on all four doors, tailgate, push-button start, passive lock on walk-away.
He stood there holding the dead fob like he wanted to give it a funeral. I told him to keep it for the blade as a glovebox spare.
Whole thing took about 40 minutes in his driveway. No tow, no dealer appointment three weeks out.
