2007 Pontiac Solstice Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a guy parked near the Westlake Village end of Thousand Oaks. He had one working key left for his 2007 Solstice and it had developed a crack in the plastic head, right where the chip sits. The key was still starting the car, barely, but he could feel it getting worse. He wanted a spare before it quit entirely.
Smart move on his part, calling before the crisis instead of after.
I pulled up, decoded the blade on site, cut a replacement, and programmed the transponder chip through the OBD port. The whole thing took under thirty minutes. He watched the whole process, which I prefer because it answers questions before they get asked.
He mentioned the dealer wanted a significant chunk of money just for the key itself, not counting labor or the time he would have spent waiting. He found us instead, and we handled it in his driveway.
Before I left I tested the new key three times, cold start included. The original cracked key went into his glovebox as the backup rather than the primary. That is the smarter arrangement anyway.
