I was already in Poinsettia on another call when the message came through. A 2005 Vibe, sitting in a parking lot off Telephone Road, fob doing nothing. Owner had already done the sensible thing and gone inside to wait.

I cracked the case open on my tailgate. CR2032 still had voltage when I tested it, which is the thing about these, voltage alone does not tell you whether the cell can actually deliver under load. Swapped it for a fresh one anyway. Still nothing.
Looked closer at the contact plate inside the fob. The spring contact on the positive side was flattened out from years of battery changes. Not enough tension to hold a solid connection against the cell. That was it. Whole job shifted from programming to a fob case swap and battery, done in the lot, ten minutes total.
She tested every button before I packed up. Locks, unlock, and the third button, all working from across the parking lot. She mentioned the dealer had quoted her a wait and a number she did not like. I did not ask what the number was. Did not need to.
