I got a call from a guy over on The Avenue in Ventura. He had a 2019 Ascent and was heading out with his dog for the weekend. The fob had been giving him grief for about a week, range was short, the driver door handle touch unlock was hit or miss, and that morning it stopped responding to the handle entirely. I reset the contact, reseated the battery correctly, and then went through the whole system: tested all four buttons, walked every door handle for touch unlock, confirmed the start button was reading the fob cleanly from normal proximity.
Everything came back solid. He did not need a new fob, did not need a dealer visit, did not need to push his weekend back.
The dealer route would have meant dropping the car, waiting for a diagnostic appointment, and probably being told to order a replacement fob at a cost he was not going to like. None of that happened here. He loaded the dog up and left.
