2022 Subaru Ascent Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in Saticoy, I got a call from a case worker who ran the vehicle lot at a women's shelter. She needed a spare smart key for a 2022 Subaru Ascent and she was deliberate about who she called.
Before she dialed, she pulled up the BSIS lookup and confirmed my license number. She told me her last locksmith had handed her a receipt with no company name and a phone number that was disconnected a week later. After that experience, she wasn't moving forward with anyone she couldn't verify. I respect that completely.
She had one working fob. The job was adding a second. I was parked in their lot within a reasonable drive from Saticoy, hood of my van as the work surface. Programming a second smart key on the Ascent requires going through the diagnostic port with the right equipment. There's no ignition-turn sequence on a push-button vehicle like this. I ran the add-key procedure, confirmed both fobs were registered and operating, walked every button, and tested the touch sensors on both front door handles.
She watched the whole thing. When both fobs were working and I walked her through the emergency blade on each one, she said she felt better knowing the shelter's vehicle was properly covered.
She mentioned the dealer had quoted her a figure that made her pause before she looked elsewhere. She paid way less going mobile, and it was done on site in under an hour.
