He had a 2003 Subaru Baja, the kind of vehicle where you can tell someone bought it on purpose and has kept it on purpose. I transferred everything into a new shell on the hood of his truck, seated a fresh CR2032, and walked the range out toward the road. Both buttons worked clean from well past where he'd ever actually need them to.
He mentioned a dealer visit earlier in the year where they quoted him for a whole new remote and programming. He didn't go back. Smart call.
