2003 Subaru Baja Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Faria Beach is the kind of neighborhood where people are either very relaxed or very not, and there's not much in between. The guy who called me that morning was firmly in the second category.
He had a 2003 Subaru Baja, the kind of vehicle where you can tell someone bought it on purpose and has kept it on purpose. He used it to haul stuff down to the beach access and back, and somewhere along the way the remote had gotten wet more than once. The lock button had stopped working a few weeks back. Then the unlock button followed. He was getting in with the blade and just leaving it unlocked, which he admitted was not a great system.
When I looked at the fob the rubber button pad had separated from the housing along one edge. Salt air and time. The contacts underneath were oxidized enough that pressing the buttons wasn't making a clean connection. The remote itself still had a signal. The electronics were fine.
I transferred everything into a new shell on the hood of his truck, seated a fresh CR2032, and walked the range out toward the road. Both buttons worked clean from well past where he'd ever actually need them to.
He mentioned a dealer visit earlier in the year where they quoted him for a whole new remote and programming. He didn't go back. Smart call.
