2017 Volkswagen CC
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: I'm worried someone else has a copy of my CC's key. Can the locks be dealt with so that copy won't work anymore?

Rekeying is the answer. If you have reason to believe an unauthorized key is floating around out there, a locksmith can rekey the ignition cylinder and door locks to a new cut. Any existing copies stop working. Your new key is the only one that fits. It's a cleaner solution than hoping nothing happens, and we can do it on site in East Simi Valley without pulling the car anywhere.

Q: My 2017 VW CC key doesn't have a fob or buttons. Is there a hidden blade or separate remote I'm missing?

Nope. If your CC came with a plain metal key, that's the whole setup. Insert it, turn it, done. There's no hidden blade to deploy, no fob battery to swap, no remote locking. Some CC configurations in other situations came with different key types, but if yours is a standard metal key, what you see is what you get. The replacement process is just cutting a new key to your vehicle's specific cut.

Q: Can a locksmith cut a new key for my 2017 CC without the original, or do you need something to copy from?

We don't need the original. Two ways to get there without it: look up the key code on record for your vehicle's locks, or decode one of the physical locks directly. Decoding means reading the lock's internal wafer positions and translating that into the correct cut. Either method gets us to a working key without a template to copy. This is exactly the kind of job a mobile locksmith handles on site.

Q: The key for my CC feels sloppy in the ignition and is getting hard to turn. Is that a key problem or an ignition problem?

Could be either, and sometimes both at the same time. A worn key rounds off the peaks of the cut over time, and a worn ignition cylinder stops gripping it cleanly. The tell is whether a fresh, precisely cut key fixes the issue or not. If a new key turns smoothly, the old one wore down. If a new key still binds, the cylinder itself is the problem.

2017 Volkswagen CC Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a guy in East Simi Valley, off Tapo Canyon Road, who'd somehow ended up with no working key for his 2017 Volkswagen CC. Not lost, not stolen. It had snapped in the ignition cylinder, and the part that broke off came out in his hand. The other piece stayed inside.

He'd already called the dealer. They told him to have it towed in, and the wait for an appointment was several days out. He wasn't interested in that.

I came to him. First thing was getting the broken piece out of the cylinder without damaging anything, which takes patience and the right extraction tools. Once the cylinder was clear, I decoded the lock to pull the correct key cut, then cut a new key to match.

He stood in his driveway watching the whole thing. When I handed him the new key and it turned clean on the first try, he said something like, "That's it?" That's it.

No tow. No days without a car. No appointment. He paid a fraction of what the dealer would have charged just for the diagnostic, let alone the actual work. I gave him a receipt with my license number on it, the same one you can look up on the BSIS site under LCO#6792.

Volkswagen CC Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What is the cheapest way to handle all-keys-lost on my 2017 Volkswagen CC?▼

Skip the tow and call a mobile locksmith first. All-keys-lost on a CC means cutting a new key from scratch, which we do on site by decoding one of your door or ignition locks. No tow, no multi-day wait for an appointment, no paying the dealer's shop rate on top of the key itself. Getting two keys made in the same visit is also a smart move since the second one costs less than coming back out a second time.
