Got a call from a Tiguan owner over in the Oakridge Estates area of Simi Valley. She had one flip key left and the panic button had stopped responding weeks ago. Then the remote lock and unlock quit. Then I got into the real job. Plugged my programmer into the OBD port, pulled the IMMO3 login, and read the component security bytes from the cluster. The 2009 Tiguan uses the Megamos ID48 chip, and the system needs the new transponder adapted through the immobilizer before the car will even crank. Cut the new HU66 blade on the van, matched the transponder, and programmed it as key number two.
She sat on her porch and watched me work from the driveway. When I handed her the second key she turned it in the ignition and just nodded, like she had been holding her breath for a month waiting for that last key to finally quit.
