2018 Volkswagen Tiguan Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in Camarillo Springs, I got a call from an independent mechanic who works out of his own shop. Knows transmissions cold. Knows engines. But his 2018 Tiguan ignition had been fighting him for weeks and he kept putting it off because he assumed it meant a dealer job.
The key was catching on the turn. Not every time, but enough that he started babying it. The way he described it, the blade would go in fine but need a little extra coax to rotate. Classic worn wafer feel, but he didn't know that's what it was.
He'd already called the dealer. They quoted him a new cylinder, a new key, and reprogramming. He was ready to book the appointment when someone told him to call a locksmith first.
I came to him. Decoded the lock on-site, confirmed it was internal wear on the wafers rather than a failed cylinder. Replaced the worn wafers, matched a fresh key to the repaired cylinder, and the factory fob paired right back up without any drama. I showed him the pulled wafers so he could see exactly where the wear had happened. He held them up and nodded the way mechanics do when something finally makes sense.
He mentioned that ignition work wasn't a category he'd ever thought about before. Transmission internals, sure. Ignition wafers, that's locksmith territory. I was done and packed up before he finished his coffee, and he paid a fraction of what the dealer wanted. Even someone who fixes cars for a living knew when to call the right trade.

“My sprinter van key broke and I was stranded. Marco was very friendly and helped me get 3 new keys quickly. Definitely using him again for any locksmithing needs.”
“Great service, decent price, even helped with some other issues I had which made it worth it (no one wants to fork over $ for locking their keys in the car). Will definitely call them again if need be.”
