A guy at Crossroads Shopping Center in Camarillo flagged me down before I even parked the van. Not my scheduled appointment. He was standing next to a 2019 Tiguan SE with his hand on the roof like he was holding it in place.
His only key had snapped. The blade broke off inside the door lock after he tried to use the mechanical key because the remote buttons had been dead for a while. He had been ignoring the dead remote, just using the blade to unlock and the ignition button to start, since the transponder chip was still being read through proximity. Then the blade gave out on him in the parking lot between Target and the food places.
I extracted the broken blade tip from the lock cylinder with a hook pick. Then I decoded the lock with my Lishi HU162T to get the bitting. Cut a fresh HU66T88 blank on my Condor, confirmed the mechanical side worked, and moved to programming. Plugged into OBD, ran the IMMO5 add-a-key procedure through VVDI, got the Megamos AES transponder synced. Then coded the remote functions so he had lock, unlock, and trunk back.
He kept clicking the buttons while walking to his car. Like he forgot what it felt like to have a full working key.
The whole thing took about 40 minutes. He was back on with his day before his lunch break ended. A dealer would have meant a tow plus days waiting for VW to ship a key blank by VIN.
