On these P3-platform Volvos the encrypted key data lives inside the CEM's EEPROM, so I pulled the module from behind the glove box, read the chip on my bench setup right there in the parking lot, generated a fresh key profile from the secured data, and wrote it back.
Cut the blade, paired the KR55WK49266 fob, seated a new CR2450, and tested every one of the six buttons plus passive entry on both front doors. He sat in the driver seat, pressed the start button, and the inline five turned over clean.
He was back on the road the same afternoon. A Volvo dealer would have meant a tow, a wait of several days for VIDA software scheduling, and a bill that makes this look like pocket change.
