2005 Chevrolet Venture
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2005 Chevrolet Venture Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was parked on the street near The Cays on a clear weekday morning when the call came in. A woman had a 2005 Venture sitting in her driveway and only one working key left.

She didn't lose it, it just stopped working. She'd had the ignition cylinder looked at months earlier and everything was fine mechanically. But now the key would go in, turn, and the van would crank without catching. Security light on the dash was staying solid after she released the key. That's the tell.

She had already called the dealer. They told her to tow it in.

I pulled up, confirmed the security indicator behavior, and got to work. The transponder chip in her existing key was reading inconsistently. Worn key head, years of keychain stress. I cut a replacement key blade to her vehicle and programmed the new transponder through the OBD port. Ran a verification crank. Security light cycled off the way it's supposed to and the Venture started clean.

The whole job was done in her driveway before she finished her coffee. She mentioned the dealer quote almost as an aside, the way people do when they're already relieved. She paid a fraction of what they wanted and didn't move the van an inch.
