Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2001 GMC Yukon Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call out to the Bancroft area of Spring Valley on a Tuesday morning. A vet tech was standing in a parking lot with a 2001 GMC Yukon and a key that had snapped off at the bow. The blade was still in the ignition cylinder. The dog she was transporting needed to be somewhere across town and the clock was moving.

She'd already called a locksmith she found through a search ad. They quoted her one price on the phone and then told her they couldn't extract the broken blade when they arrived. Still charged her a service call fee. She was not happy when I pulled up.

I extracted the broken blade from the cylinder first. That's the part that determines everything else. Once it was out intact, I could read the cuts directly off the blade rather than having to decode the lock a different way. Cut a new key on the spot, tested it in the ignition and both doors.

The whole job was done before she expected me to even arrive. She made the appointment. The dealer, she mentioned, had told her to tow it in and they'd need it for a day minimum. I was in the parking lot and gone in under forty minutes.
