2019 GMC Yukon Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a woman parked in a visitor lot in Downtown National City. She was home from college for break, staying at an apartment nearby, and her 2019 GMC Yukon was not cooperating.
She'd already tried one locksmith before me. That tech had attempted to program a replacement fob, couldn't finish the job, left the security module in a confused state, and still charged her for the attempt. After that, the truck wouldn't accept any key programming at all.
She found me through a search, read through my reviews, and called. She was upfront about being nervous, which I respected. She'd already been burned once and had every reason to be skeptical.
I plugged into the OBD port and saw the situation immediately. There were fault codes sitting in the body control module from the incomplete session, and the module was stuck in a state where it wouldn't proceed with a new key learn. The previous attempt had used a programming approach that wasn't right for this model year, which is a real thing that happens when a tech is guessing instead of following the correct GM procedure.
I cleared the codes, confirmed the module came back clean, and ran the proper key learning sequence from scratch. Watching the confirmation come up on my screen, I turned it around so she could see it too. Her fob registered correctly. The truck started clean on the first try.
She asked what the dealer would have charged to fix what the other locksmith broke. I told her more than she'd want to hear. I didn't tack on a surcharge for the cleanup work. Sorting out the mess left by a bad first attempt is part of doing the job right, not a separate line item.
