2005 GMC Yukon Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call from someone near the CSUSM area in San Marcos, over on the north end of town close to the university. She drove a 2005 Yukon and had been dealing with a quirk for about two weeks.

The remote would lock the doors fine from 20 feet away, but the unlock button had gotten unreliable. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't, and the security light on the dash had flickered on twice during cold starts before clearing itself.

She figured it was probably a dying fob battery, but wasn't sure if the security light meant something bigger was going on.

I got there and the first thing I did was pop the fob and check the CR2032. The battery still had voltage, but the contact clip on the positive side had a slight outward bow, just enough that the battery wasn't making clean contact every time. That kind of thing happens when someone pries the fob open with a flathead instead of at the correct seam. The cell itself was probably fine. The connection wasn't.

I reset the clip, seated a fresh CR2032, and tested range from the sidewalk. Unlock worked clean at 40 feet. Lock matched it. I then watched her start the vehicle twice with no security light.

The intermittent security light during cold starts was almost certainly the fob dropping signal right at key-on, making the vehicle security system momentarily unhappy. With a solid battery contact, it didn't have that problem anymore.

She didn't need a new remote. She didn't need reprogramming. She needed a two-minute fix done correctly. That's the job sometimes. I'd rather tell you that on site than sell you parts you don't need.
