I was parked near the Seacoast neighborhood in Imperial Beach when the call came in. Owner of a 1999 Infiniti QX4, sitting in the driveway of a place off Seacoast Drive. He'd had a key cut at a hardware store weeks earlier, used it every day, no problem. Then one morning the engine cranked, fired for a second, and died. Tried it four more times. Same result every time. He thought the car had developed some kind of fuel or electrical problem overnight.

I cut a proper replacement key using the correct transponder-equipped blank, enrolled the chip to his immobilizer through the OBD port, and tested it. Started clean on the first try. He'd been one diagnostic fee away from pulling a perfectly good fuel pump for no reason.
The whole job wrapped up in his driveway. He didn't need a tow, didn't need to wait days for a dealer-ordered key.
