2002 Infiniti QX4 Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was parked near the Richland neighborhood in San Marcos when I got the call. Owner of a 2002 Infiniti QX4 had one working key left and it was worn down enough that it was getting stubborn in the ignition. He wanted a spare before that last key gave out completely.
That is the smart call. People wait until they have zero keys and then the job gets harder.
The QX4 at that point in production was running the Nissan anti-theft system of that era, and the transponder chip in the key has to be matched to the vehicle. You cannot just cut a blade and hand it over. I decoded the existing worn key, cut a fresh blade to match, and programmed the transponder to the immobilizer right there in his driveway. Two clean starts. Tested with the original key still in the system. Both worked.
He mentioned he had called the dealer earlier that week just to ask. They told him the key had to be ordered by VIN and he would need to schedule a separate programming appointment after it arrived. That is two trips and several days of waiting. He got it handled in one visit, same afternoon, for a fraction of what they quoted.
The QX4 is not a complicated key job. But it has to be done right, with the right equipment, not just a blade cut at a kiosk.
