2001 Infiniti QX4 Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from someone in Carmel Mountain Ranch on a Tuesday afternoon. She was in a shopping center parking lot, 2001 Infiniti QX4, and her only key had stopped working. Not a dead battery situation. The key had snapped at the base of the blade and part of it was still sitting in the ignition cylinder.
First thing was the cylinder. I extracted the broken blade section without damaging the lock. Once that was clear, I decoded the cut from the cylinder itself so I could originate a replacement without needing a key code on file.
Then came the transponder side. The QX4 at this age uses an early-generation Nissan immobilizer system. The chip inside the original key head was gone with the broken piece, so this was a full replacement job, not a clone. I cut a new key blade to match the decoded bitting, programmed the transponder chip to the vehicle on site, and tested it through three cold start cycles before calling it done.
She mentioned she had called the dealer first. They told her it would take a few days because they needed to order the key and she would have to leave the vehicle. Leaving the car was not something she could do. That is the part where mobile makes the difference. I was already packed up and gone before she finished her lunch order.
