2006 Kia Sorento
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How long does the key replacement actually take once you're at my car?

For a 2006 Sorento, it's a cut-only job. I decode the lock or use your existing key if you have one, cut the blade to spec, and test it in the door and ignition. Most of the time that's done in fifteen to twenty minutes at your vehicle. All-keys-lost takes a few extra minutes because I'm working from the lock cylinder rather than a key code, but the job still wraps up fast.

Q: Can you make a key faster than the dealer?

On a 2006 Sorento, yes, and it's not close. The dealer has to write up a repair order, pull your VIN, locate or order a blank, get a tech scheduled, and bill a full labor hour for a job that takes a fraction of that time. We cut out every one of those steps. The actual cutting takes the same amount of time regardless of who does it. The difference is everything surrounding it.

Q: My key turns in the ignition but the car won't start. Could it be a worn key?

On a 2006 Sorento with a mechanical key, a worn blade can absolutely cause a no-start if it's not turning the ignition cylinder cleanly all the way to the start position. You might feel it binding slightly or not catching. The fix is usually a freshly cut replacement key made to the correct depth and spacing. If a new key still doesn't solve it, the ignition cylinder itself may be worn and that's a separate job.

Q: I only have one key for my 2006 Sorento. Can you cut a spare before I lose it?

That's the smartest call you can make. Bring the one key you have and I can cut a duplicate right from it. Having a spare on hand means that if the original gets lost, worn, or snapped in a lock, you're not starting from zero. A decode-from-lock job when you have no key at all still gets done, but having that backup ready costs less time and less hassle. Do it now while it's easy.

2006 Kia Sorento Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call from a guy in Downtown Chula Vista on a Tuesday morning. Parked on one of the side streets near Third Avenue, running late, realized his only key was gone. Not in the car, not in his bag. Just gone.

He'd already called the dealer. They told him to tow it in. He asked how long. "We'll take a look when it gets here." That's not an answer. That's a waiting room you pay by the hour to sit in.

I pulled up with my decoder and a key blank. Read the door lock right there on the street, cut the blade to match, and had him in the car in under twenty minutes. The car never moved. No tow, no appointment, no queue.

He asked what the dealer would have charged. I told him to call us instead of asking that question next time.

Kia Sorento Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What if I need a Kia key after hours or on the weekend?▼

Dealer service departments keep their own hours, and a lost key on a Friday evening or Sunday morning can leave you stranded until Monday. We work outside those windows. One call covers Downtown Chula Vista and the surrounding area, and we can usually get to you the same day or evening depending on where you are and what's going on. No tow required, no appointment queue, no waiting for a certified tech to free up a bay.
