2024 Kia Sorento Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call out to the Live Oak Park Area in Fallbrook from a guy who was convinced his 2024 Sorento had developed some kind of electrical gremlin.
He had already been to an auto parts store, run the scan tool, and came up with nothing obvious. The car was starting inconsistently. Sometimes the push-button would respond right away. Other times he would stand there pressing it while the dash gave him a key-not-detected warning and refused to crank.
He had bought a replacement fob online and paid someone to program it about two weeks earlier. It seemed fine at first. Then the no-start warnings started showing up in the evenings, after the car had been driven and parked and driven again a few times.
When I got there I pulled up the fob and looked at the programming. The issue was in how the previous job had been done. The fob had been paired in a way that passed the initial handshake but was not holding up through the vehicle's full security verification cycle over repeated drive cycles. The 2024 Sorento does not just check the fob once at startup. The system keeps validating, and a fob that is not properly enrolled to the immobilizer will start dropping out. His fob also had a CR2450 sitting slightly off the contact, so the battery drain from repeated failed handshakes had made the whole thing worse.
I re-enrolled the fob correctly, seated the battery, and ran through a full test cycle. Walk-up detection, door handles, start button, everything. It read clean.
He asked what the dealer would have charged to figure this out. I told him to call and ask them, because honestly the number they were going to quote for a re-do plus diagnostics was going to ruin his afternoon. He laughed. The job was done in his driveway.
