2019 Kia Sorento
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2019 Kia Sorento Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy in Berry Park, Imperial Beach called me on a Wednesday afternoon from a parking lot next to an alignment shop. He had already had a locksmith out. That locksmith left.

What happened was this: the original locksmith started a smart key programming sequence on his 2019 Sorento, the battery voltage dipped during the security handshake, and the immobilizer went into a fault state. No new key registered. No old key working either. The car just sat there, locked out of its own security logic.

When I pulled up I connected my jump pack first, before touching anything else. Stable voltage is not optional on this job, it is the job. Then I went into the system with my diagnostic equipment, found the fault stored in the security module, cleared it, and confirmed the module was ready to accept a new programming sequence before I even introduced the fob.

The 2019 Sorento uses a four-button proximity fob. The fob I had matched what the system expected. The programming sequence ran clean. Doors locked, unlocked, engine started. I walked every function before I called it done.

Start to finish, about an hour and a half. The alignment shop guys watched the whole thing. The owner had already been quoted a flatbed tow plus a multi-day dealer visit before he found me. He paid a fraction of what that route would have cost him, and he drove out of that lot himself.
