2017 Kia Sorento Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
It was a Tuesday in July and she was standing in a parking lot near Kit Carson Park with a Sorento full of groceries and a fob that had gone completely silent on her. No lock response, no unlock, nothing. She'd already tried the buttons a dozen times. The car was locked and the food was starting to lose the fight with the heat.
She called the dealer first. Next-day appointment. She called me after that.
I was there in about twenty minutes. Getting the door open is always the first step before anything else matters, and the 2017 Sorento has a mechanical insert key inside the fob for exactly that situation. Once I was in, I plugged into the OBD port and pulled up the key data.
Two things were going on at once. The CR2032 in her fob was basically depleted, and the immobilizer had lost its sync with the key after a jump start she'd had done a week earlier. Either one alone might have been intermittent. Together, they made the fob look completely dead.
Battery swap, then reprogramming through the diagnostic port using the vehicle's PIN. Tested every button. Walked the doors. Confirmed the engine started clean. Forty-four minutes from her first call to her driving away with the groceries still cold enough to matter.
The dealer would have gotten to it the next day. She didn't have until the next day.
