2020 Kia Sorento Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out near Torrey Pines, the calls usually come from people who have been sitting on a problem for a day or two. This one came in the same morning it happened.
A woman had been at the trailhead parking area and set her fob on the roof while she loaded gear into the back of the Sorento. She drove off. She made it about four blocks before it hit her. By the time she circled back, the fob was gone.
She had no spare. The car was still running because she had been inside it when she drove away, but the second she shut it off, that was going to be it. So she left it running and called me.
I got there in about 25 minutes. Car idling in a lot off Torrey Pines Road, her standing next to it looking like she was guarding a crime scene.
All-keys-lost on a 2020 Sorento is a real procedure -- it takes the right diagnostic equipment to wipe the old fob from memory and enroll a new one. I carry the tools for it. We worked through the programming sequence at the OBD port, registered a new fob, and tested every function before I closed up the van.
She asked about the dealer. I told her honestly: they would have needed an appointment, probably a day or two out, and the number she would have paid was a good chunk more than what I charged her on the spot.
She drove home with a working key. The old fob, wherever it landed on Torrey Pines Road, is now useless.
