I was already in Encinitas on a Saturday evening when the call came in from Cardiff-by-the-Sea. A couple had walked out of a sushi spot near the beach to find their 2016 Kia Sorento sitting there completely unresponsive. The fob did nothing. No visible corrosion, but the positive clip had a slight inward bend from a previous battery swap, so even though the cell was seated, the contact was inconsistent. Swapped in a fresh cell, straightened the clip, snapped it back together.
The fob range came back immediately. Start button responded on the first press. I walked all four buttons and confirmed the doors, then showed them the hold-to-the-button backup trick so they would not be stranded if it ever ran low again before they noticed.
They drove home that night. The dealer would have meant leaving the car until Monday and paying a lot more for the same result. When you keep the right parts stocked and know the vehicle, a Saturday-night call is no different from a Tuesday morning.
