2026 Kia Sorento
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2026 Kia Sorento Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was parked off La Mesa Boulevard, in La Mesa Village, when the call came in. Night shift nurse, just off a long stretch at the hospital, standing next to her 2026 Kia Sorento in a parking structure. She had one working fob and wanted a spare before her luck ran out.

Before she called me, she told me she had looked up my BSIS license number on the state website. She had been burned before, not personally, but a coworker had hired an unlicensed guy who left no paper trail and a fob that stopped working two weeks later. So she did her homework.

I appreciated that. It means she understood what she was actually paying for.

The job on the 2026 Sorento is not a plug-and-play situation. The immobilizer on this generation requires a PIN retrieved by VIN through an authorized security data path. I pulled the PIN, connected through the OBD port, and registered the new fob alongside her existing one. No existing keys erased, no disruption to what was already working. The new fob paired cleanly. I walked every button, tested the door handles, confirmed the start button recognized both fobs, and handed it back.

She asked what the dealer would have charged. I told her to call and find out. She already had, that morning. She said she saved a good chunk.

The credential check she did before calling is exactly what any smart owner should do. The BSIS license number is public record. Look it up.
