2011 Kia Sorento Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in Bressi Ranch, a guy flagged me down after finding my number through a neighbor. He had snapped his key blade off in the door lock cylinder on his 2011 Kia Sorento. Part of it was still buried in the lock. He had already tried fishing it out himself with a thin piece of wire, which pushed it in a little further.
The door cylinder on this generation is not forgiving when someone has been probing at a broken piece. I worked carefully to extract what was left without disturbing the wafers, then decoded the lock to get the cut pattern. The fob itself was undamaged, which was the one piece of good news that morning. He just needed a replacement key blade cut to match and then enrolled through the OBD port so the vehicle security system would accept it.
While I was cutting the blade at the van, he mentioned he had already called the dealer before reaching me. They wanted him to tow it in and come back in a couple of days. He was standing in his driveway in Bressi Ranch at 7 in the morning needing to get his kid to school.
We were done in about 45 minutes. He tested the door, tested the start, and that was it. The dealer comparison came up naturally, but honestly by then it was just an afterthought.
