2004 Nissan Sentra Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A young couple in Westside Escondido had just bought a used 2004 Nissan Sentra off an overflow lot. Clean car, good price, one key. The lot told them getting a spare was their problem to figure out.
They tried the hardware store first. The guy at the key kiosk cut them a copy, took their money, and sent them home. Key went in, engine cranked, then died. Cranked, died. They went back to the store. Guy shrugged and said the cut looked right to him.
That's when they called me.
I met them at the lot before they drove the car home. Explained what happened: the copy the store made was a perfect mechanical fit, but there's a transponder chip in the key head that has to be programmed to the car's immobilizer. The hardware store blank had no chip at all. Their car was doing exactly what it was supposed to do, rejecting an unrecognized key.
I matched the right chipped blank, cut it to their vehicle, and programmed it on site. Took about 20 minutes start to finish.
They drove home with two working keys. The dealer quote they'd looked up beforehand was a reminder that the mobile route saves more than just time.
