Out in The Cays in Coronado, I got a call from a woman who said her 2008 Sentra was "not reading the key anymore." She had the Intelligent Key fob, and the car had started showing a key-not-detected warning on the dash. She could still get in with the mechanical insert blade tucked inside the fob, but the push-button functions were unreliable and she was worried the whole thing was failing.

The existing fob re-registered cleanly once the system had a fresh pairing. I walked the whole fob, every button, the insert blade in the door lock, the warning light on the dash. Everything cleared.
She did not need a new fob. She needed the battery done right and the registration refreshed. The dealer quote had assumed the worst before anyone looked at the actual problem. She saved a good chunk and did not lose her car for a day.
