The ignition cylinder on Frontiers, Xterras, and older Titans wears down with high mileage. The wafers loosen, the key starts catching, and eventually the owner thinks the whole ignition needs replacing.
A truck owner at the hunting supply store in El Cajon had been fighting his 2012 Nissan Sentra ignition for weeks. Wiggling the key, pushing hard, jiggling the steering wheel. Then I decoded the lock, replaced the worn wafers, and cut a fresh key matched to the repaired cylinder. His separate remote, FCC ID CWTWBU735, paired right back up. I showed him the old wafers so he could see the wear.
His total was $254. Ignition turns smooth, and he didn't replace a part that wasn't actually broken.
