2006 Toyota Sequoia
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How does mobile key replacement work for this vehicle?

You call, give me the year, make, model, and VIN. I confirm the right fob and blade for your specific 2006 Sequoia and give you a price before I leave. When I arrive, I cut the blade to your lock, program the transponder to the immobilizer through the OBD port, and sync the remote. Then I test all four buttons and verify the engine starts clean. You get a working key handed to you on site.

Q: What do I need to have ready when you arrive?

Your vehicle, a valid photo ID, and proof of ownership, usually your registration. I pull the VIN from the dash or door jamb to confirm the right key specs before I cut anything. That's it. Dealers on these older Toyotas have occasionally asked for additional documentation before releasing a key order. I've heard from owners who showed up with registration and ID and still got pushback at the parts counter.

Q: I have a working key but the remote stopped locking and unlocking. Do I need a whole new fob?

Not necessarily. On the 2006 Sequoia, the remote and the transponder are in the same key, but they function as two separate systems. The transponder can be perfectly healthy while the remote side fails on its own. First thing to check is the CR2032. A weak battery on these will kill remote range before it kills the transponder function, so the car starts fine but the buttons get unreliable.

Q: My 2006 Sequoia starts fine but immediately stalls right after. Could that be an immobilizer problem?

That start-then-stall pattern is a known sign that the immobilizer is not completing its handshake with the key. The engine fires on the starter, then the vehicle security system cuts fuel or spark because it didn't get a clean read from the transponder chip in the key head. It can happen when a key has been damaged, when the transponder has partially failed, or when there's a problem on the vehicle side with the immobilizer receiver near the ignition.

2006 Toyota Sequoia Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy at an apartment complex near the Spring Valley border in Lemon Grove called me about his 2006 Sequoia. He had one key left and the remote buttons had gotten flaky.

Lock and unlock worked maybe half the time. The cargo door button did nothing. He wasn't in a panic because the key still turned, but he knew he was one bad morning away from standing in a parking lot with a dead fob and nowhere to be.

He'd already called the dealer. They gave him a quote and told him to bring it in, which meant either driving it there on his one iffy key or arranging a tow. He didn't love either option.

I pulled up to his building and got eyes on the fob first. The CR2032 wasn't the problem. The fob itself had taken some wear and one of the internal contacts was tired. Replacement fob, key blade cut to match his lock, transponder programmed through the OBD port, remote synced and tested. Walked every button: lock, unlock, panic, cargo. All four working before I packed up.

He asked what the dealer would have charged. I told him considerably more. He said that tracked.

The whole job was done in his parking lot in under 40 minutes. He never had to leave the building.

Toyota Sequoia Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Do I need to bring my 2006 Toyota Sequoia somewhere for key replacement?▼

No. I come to your location, whether that's your driveway, your job, or a parking lot near the Spring Valley border in Lemon Grove. Everything I need comes in the van: the key blank, the cutting equipment, and the programming tools for both the transponder and the remote. Toyota dealers will typically want the vehicle at their service bay, and on a 2006 Sequoia where your only key is marginal, that can mean arranging a tow.
