2018 Toyota Sequoia Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from Cardiff-by-the-Sea on a Thursday afternoon. A parent was parked in the school lot off Birmingham Drive, in for a conference, and her Sequoia remote head key had gone completely quiet. No lock, no unlock, nothing. The key would still turn and the engine would start, but the fob was dead as a rock.
She had already called the dealer. They told her they could get her in the following Tuesday, possibly Wednesday, and gave her a number that made her pause.
I was already running calls in Encinitas. I told her I could be there in about 35 minutes.
When I got to the lot, she handed me the fob and I popped it open right there on the hood. CR2016 inside, which was correct, but it was cocked at a slight angle and one contact had a small bend to it -- someone had pried the case open with a flathead instead of a proper tool and sprung the clip. I straightened the contact, reseated the battery flush, and snapped the case together properly.
Tested every button standing next to the Sequoia. All four came back. Walked the full perimeter, checked both front locks, both rear, and the liftgate. Solid.
She didn't need a new key at all. Just the right fix, done on site, while she was still on school property. She made it to her next stop without rearranging a single thing in her afternoon. The dealer route would have cost her most of a week and a lot more money. This cost her about 35 minutes of waiting in a parking lot.
