2015 Toyota Sequoia
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How does mobile key replacement work for a 2015 Sequoia?

Call with your year, make, model, and VIN. I confirm the correct key type for your vehicle and give you a price before I drive out. When I arrive, I verify the VIN, decode or reference your key cut, cut the replacement blade, program the transponder to your immobilizer, and test everything before I hand it over. The whole job happens beside your car. No tow, no waiting room, no return trip.

Q: What do I need to have ready when you arrive?

Three things: your vehicle, a valid photo ID, and proof of ownership like your registration or title. I pull the VIN from the dash or door jamb to confirm the key specs on my end. That is genuinely it. Dealers have been known to ask for additional documentation before they will even order a key, and some owners have been turned away at the parts counter despite having the VIN and registration in hand.

Q: My 2015 Sequoia starts fine but then stalls right away. Is that the key?

That pattern, starts and immediately stalls, points to the immobilizer not completing its handshake with the transponder. The engine fires on the mechanical turn of the key, then the security system cuts it because it did not get a valid chip response. This can happen with a damaged transponder, a key that was never properly programmed to that vehicle, or a worn chip that reads inconsistently.

Q: I found a replacement transponder key online for cheap. Can I just program it myself?

The 2015 Sequoia does have an onboard add-a-key relearn procedure available for transponder keys, so a DIY option exists if you already have one working key in hand. You need an existing programmed key to enter the registration mode. The catch with aftermarket keys bought online: not all blanks carry a compatible transponder chip, and a chip that is the wrong type will fail the relearn no matter how correctly you follow the steps.

2015 Toyota Sequoia Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A Sequoia owner in the Berry Park area of Imperial Beach reached out about her key. The plastic housing had split at the seam, the rubber button pad was worn through, and she was babying it every time she used it. She had already been to the dealer. They quoted her a number that made her cringe, for a full key replacement, no questions asked.

What they did not tell her was that the chip inside was still communicating fine and the remote functions were working. The housing was the problem, not the electronics.

I pulled up to her cul-de-sac with replacement shells on hand. I decoded the blade at the lock to confirm the cut was still correct before touching anything, then carefully moved her original circuit board and transponder into the new housing. Tested every button. Tested the start function. Cut a fresh blade to match.

She watched the whole thing happen on her hood. When I handed it back and it turned the ignition cleanly on the first try, she said she wished she had called me before wasting time at the dealer. The expensive parts were never broken. Sometimes the fix costs a fraction of what they quoted because nobody stopped to ask what was actually wrong first.

Toyota Sequoia Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Do I need to bring my 2015 Toyota Sequoia somewhere for key replacement?▼

No. I come to you. Your driveway, your job site, a parking lot in Imperial Beach, the Berry Park area, wherever the vehicle is. I show up with the right key blank, the cutting equipment, and the programming tools for your specific setup. Toyota dealers typically want the vehicle on their lot, and owners report waiting a day or more when inventory or a technician is not immediately available. Some have been told to schedule a week out.
