A man at the library in Imperial Beach told me he had already paid another locksmith full price for a 2015 Toyota Sequoia key that never programmed right. The engine cranked but the immobilizer killed fuel after two seconds every time. The other locksmith told him the ID box was bad and left.
The ID box was fine. The locksmith had not completed Toyota's full key registration. Toyota's immobilizer requires a specific security sequence that includes seed calculation and a timed registration process. If you skip steps or rush the timer, the key writes temporarily but does not commit to the module's permanent memory.
I used my TOY43 Lishi to verify the blade cut was correct, then connected through OBD with my IM608. I cleared the failed registration, ran a clean immobilizer reset with the full security sequence, and confirmed the new key was permanently stored. His key with remote, FCC ID , started the engine clean with no fuel cutoff.
He paid me $127. The dealer charges $301 for the same work. He had already paid the first locksmith too, which was money gone. What I could do was get it right this time and show him the IM608 screen confirming the key was permanently registered to his car's immobilizer. That confirmation screen is the proof that the job is actually done, not just attempted.
