Out in Moorpark near Apricot Lane Farms, a guy flagged me down on a weekend call. His 2012 A7 had been giving him intermittent comfort access failures for a couple of weeks. Door handles would not wake up. Remote range dropped to about two feet. Then one morning it just threw "No key detected" on the dash and refused to start.
He had already watched one of my Audi smart key videos on YouTube. Recognized me when I pulled up, which was a first.
I popped the fob open on his trunk lid. The CR2032 measured low but not dead, and the battery clip had a slight bow to it, not making solid contact. Replaced the cell, reseated the clip, and comfort access came back immediately. But range was still short on the lock and unlock buttons, which told me the remote side of the original fob was wearing out internally.
I programmed a fresh IYZFBSB802 using the VVDI key tool to write the Megamos AES transponder data and pair the 315 MHz remote in one pass. Cut the HU66 emergency blade from the original key code. Then the real test: every button, three cold starts, comfort access on all four door handles, and trunk release from ten feet away.
He stood there watching the handles respond and just nodded like he had already seen it done. Technically, he had. Just on a screen.
