A recent college grad at the private gym lot near Arroyo Vista Community Park in Moorpark had just bought a used 2017 Audi A7 from a friend of a friend. Great condition, fair price, one key. The seller told him a spare would not cost much. He called the Audi dealer and heard a number that hit different after a down payment and first-month insurance.
He found me online and asked if the dealer price was standard. I told him it was. Audi dealers charge what Audi dealers charge. But I do not carry the overhead.
I met him at the gym before his workout. His A7 used a flip-style remote key with the HU66 blade and a Megamos AES transponder chip, which is what every C7.5 A7 runs after the 2013 switchover from the older Megamos 48 crypto. I used my VVDI2 with the Audi-specific BCM2 adapter to read the existing key's transponder data through the OBD port, then wrote a matching AES chip onto a fresh blank and cut the HU66 blade on site. No bench pull needed since he still had a working key.
He walked into the gym with two working keys in his pocket. That second key also means if he ever loses one, the replacement is a simple add-a-key instead of an all-keys-lost bench job, which saves a good chunk on top of an already cheaper visit. He was done before his warm-up would have been.
