2018 Audi A7
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How does mobile key replacement work for a 2018 A7?

Call with your VIN ready. I confirm the key specs for your vehicle, give you a price, and come to your location in Moorpark with the right key blank and cutting equipment. On site, I either decode your existing lock or use the VIN-based key code to cut the replacement blade to your vehicle. The new key gets tested in both the door lock and the ignition before I pack up. One visit. No tow, no waiting room.

Q: What do I need to have ready when you arrive?

Your vehicle, a valid photo ID, and proof of ownership, which is usually your registration or title. I pull the VIN from the dashboard or door jamb to verify the correct cut. That's the whole list. Audi dealers sometimes require additional steps including VIN-based ordering through their internal systems, and if you're a second owner without the original key documentation, that process can get slower than it has any right to be.

Q: I have one key left for my A7. Should I get a spare made now or wait until I need one?

Make the spare now. Hands down. One-key situations are fine right up until they're not, and with a vehicle like the A7, "not" usually means a broken blade, a lost key, or a locked-out situation at the worst possible time. Getting a spare cut while you still have the original is the easier and faster version of this job. All-keys-lost situations take longer because I have to decode the lock from scratch rather than duplicate the working key.

Q: Can I get a key cut for my A7 at a hardware store or a kiosk?

Not accurately. The A7 uses a high-precision key profile that generic kiosks and most hardware stores aren't set up to cut correctly. An imprecise cut can feel like it works and still wear the ignition cylinder over time, or it can fail in the lock on the first cold morning. Automotive locksmiths use dedicated cutting machines calibrated for these profiles. It's worth doing it right the first time rather than troubleshooting a bad cut later.

2018 Audi A7 Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A woman in Peach Hill, over in the newer part of Moorpark, called me on a Tuesday morning. She had one key for her 2018 A7 and had just snapped it off in the door lock. Not cracked, not bent. Snapped. The tip was still sitting in the cylinder.

She'd already called the dealer. They told her she'd need to tow it in, and the wait for an appointment was several days out. She found me an hour later.

I drove out to her townhouse. The broken tip came out of the cylinder cleanly with an extractor, which is the part most people don't expect to take five minutes instead of thirty. Then I decoded the lock face and cut her a new blade on site to match. Tested it in the door, tested it in the ignition. Worked first try.

She mentioned the dealer quote almost as a passing comment when I handed her the new key. The number made her laugh a little. She'd saved a good chunk and had a working key before noon.

Audi A7 Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Do I need to bring my 2018 Audi A7 somewhere for key replacement?▼

No. I come to you. Wherever the car is sitting in Moorpark, whether that's a driveway off Peach Hill or a parking lot somewhere nearby, that's where the work happens. Audi dealers typically want the vehicle in their service bay and will require an appointment, sometimes days out. If the only key is already broken or lost, that means a tow, and not every tow driver knows how to handle a locked steering column without causing a headache.
