Older Chevy trucks with the B106 or B111 keyway are some of the fastest key jobs I run. The lock is simple to decode, the blanks are basic to cut, and the 10-minute immobilizer learn on these trucks is the quickest GM procedure out there. A spare with a working original can be done in 15 to 20 minutes flat.

A customer on a road trip stopped at a rest area outside Carpinteria and his key snapped clean in the ignition of his 2012 Chevrolet Equinox. Half the blade was stuck in the cylinder and the other half was in his hand. He was afraid to force it and didn't want to make it worse. I could hear the panic in his voice when he called.

I used my B106 Lishi to extract the broken fragment without damaging the wafers. Then I decoded the lock, cut a new blade, and programmed the transponder through OBD. His truck uses a B111-PT transponder key, FCC ID OHT01060512, with a separate remote fob. The immobilizer learn took one 10-minute security cycle and the new key fired the engine on the first turn.

He was back on the highway in under an hour from when he called, and the total was 201. The dealer would have charged 411 minimum plus a tow and a multi-day wait. A snapped key at a rest area feels like a disaster. For these older GM trucks, it's one of the simplest jobs I do.
