Saturday night in Carpinteria, out near Rincon Point, a couple came out of the bowling alley and their 2010 Chevrolet Equinox was dead to both fobs. No chirp, no locks, nothing. They figured they'd leave it overnight and call the dealer Monday morning.
Then one of them searched for a Chevy locksmith and found me. I was about fifteen minutes out.
Their fobs were both OHT01060512, five-button flip keys. I popped the shells open on the tailgate. Both CR2032 cells were flatlined. Swapped them out, then ran a remote resync through my VVDI Key Tool to re-pair both remotes to the body control module. The BCM on these second-gen Equinoxes (the Theta platform, same module as the GMC Terrain) can hold up to four key IDs, and theirs had two registered. Both came back online. Lock, unlock, hatch, remote start, panic. Everything answered on the first press.
The wife said she'd been sitting inside googling how much a tow to the dealer would cost on top of everything else. That's the part people don't think about. It's never just the key price at the dealer. It's the tow, the wait, the Monday-through-Friday schedule.
They drove home that night. When the van is stocked and the phone is on, a 9pm Saturday call works the same as a 9am Tuesday.
