2008 Chevrolet Equinox
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2008 Chevrolet Equinox Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a guy in the Upper East side of Santa Barbara, just off Micheltorena. He'd snapped his only key off in the door lock -- the blade sheared clean at the shoulder, and the broken tip was still sitting in the cylinder. No spare. Car wasn't going anywhere.

He'd already called the dealer. They wanted him to tow it in, said they'd need to order the key blank, and threw out a timeline that stretched toward the end of the week. He had work the next morning and wasn't interested in rearranging his schedule around a parts order.

I came to him. Extracted the broken tip from the cylinder without pulling the lock, cut a new key to match, and ran the transponder through the relearn. The whole thing happened in his driveway while he stood there with a coffee watching me work.

He said he'd assumed it would be a whole ordeal. It wasn't. The car started on the first turn, I tested it a second time in front of him, and that was Tuesday afternoon handled.

The dealer would have gotten him back on the road eventually. I got him back on the road the same hour he called.
